Lighthouse started as a 13-pie
ce rock orchestra in 1968. Their innovative sound was a fusion of rock, jazz and classical influences. They had nine gold albums and had Canada’s first platinum album. They climbed the charts throughout the world bringing their unique new sound to venues as diverse as Carnegie Hall and Japan’s Expo ’70. Today Lighthouse is still going strong with its 10-member lineup featuring the original nucleus of Skip Prokop, Paul Hoffert and Ralph Cole, an all-star horn section and the vocal talent of lead singer Dan Clancy. Drawing on their classic hits and new material from the CD Song of the Ages, Lighthouse have not strayed from their roots emphasizing virtuoso solos, tight ensemble playing and elegant vocal harmonies.

A native of southwest Virginia, Ron Thomason founded the Dry Branch Fire Squad in 1976. To date, the band has recorded over twenty-one projects and performed at the most prestigious acoustic music venues and festivals in North America. Most bluegrass observers agree that Dry Branch's current line-up is one of its strongest ever. In addition to Ron Thomason on mandolin, guitar and lead vocals, other group members are: Brian Aldridge on guitar, mandolin and harmony vocals; Tom Boyd on banjo, dobro and harmony vocals; and Danny Russell on bass and harmony vocals.Musically, their starting point is a ruggedly soulful brand of classic bluegrass, which they enliven and reinvent using a wide-ranging repertoire of vintage and contemporary sources. Thomason's hilariously droll "country bumpkin" (but not really) monologues are also a big part of the band's show. Audiences are not only filled with the emotions which stimulated the creation of bluegrass and mountain music but are also given a taste of the culture from which this music evolved.

The Abrams Brothers are an Ontario–based American/Bluegrass band that pairs a rich musical background with youthful exuberance. Fourth-generation musicians, their musical roots reach back to their great-grandparents. Though young, the band has already racked up some impressive credits, including being the youngest Canadians to appear on Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry in 2005. The Abrams Brothers got the nod from Arlo Guthrie (whose songs they have recorded) “these guys are way too young to be that good.” Recently they had their CMT debut with a new video which is their rendition of the Coldplay song ‘Viva la Vida’

Raylene Rankin, Cindy Church, and Susan Crowe, all award winning recording artists, bring their varied musical signatures to the stage. Raylene Rankin is best known for her part in the Rankin Family and the Rankin Sisters, but her solo work has long stood apart on its own as solidly creative. Her voice is as incomparable as hand-cut crystal - and equally beautiful. Cindy Church is one of the finest singers in Canada today. Her work with Quartette, Lunch at Allen’s, and The Nearness of You (the Hoagy Carmichael tribute) illustrates the range of her ability and her musical flexibility. Susan Crowe is described as a writer’s writer, whose eyes and ears never wander far from the lyric. She brings her voice, unquestionably the darkest of the three, providing a kind of harmonic shade to the group.

Kate Rusby is England's preeminent traditional folk singer. Over the past 15 years, Kate Rusby has risen to the nearest folk gets to superstar status. Her first love is traditional song. She has collaborated with other folk artists but recently took a huge leap and collaborated with pop superstar Ronan Keating. Brown wrote in the Daily Telegraph: “Listening to Kate Rusby's lovely new album, it occurred to me that she's England's answer to Dolly Parton. Not in terms of the wigs and the sequins, but in her quaveringly sincere ability to tell a simple, down home story in a song and make your heart ache for it.”

One of the most successful songwriters in country music history, Bill Anderson was also a hugely popular singer in his own right, earning the nickname "Whispering Bill" for his gentle, airy vocal style and occasional spoken narrations. Anderson was born in Columbia, SC, in 1937 and grew up mostly in Atlanta. He studied journalism at the University of Georgia, with an eye toward sports writing, and worked his way through school as a radio DJ, during which time he first tried his hand at songwriting and singing. His composition "City Lights," written when he was just 19 years old, was recorded by Ray Price in 1958 and went all the way to the top of the country charts. Anderson took full advantage of his big break, moving to Nashville and landing a record contract of his own with Decca. His first chart hit came with 1959's "That's What It's Like to Be Lonesome," and he had his first Top Ten entry with 1960's "Tip of My Fingers." Early hits like "Po' Folks" (1961), "Mama Sang a Song" (his first number one, from 1962), and "8 X 10" (number two, 1963) still remain among his best-known.
Anderson recorded his biggest hit and signature song, the partly spoken ballad "Still," in 1963, and it not only topped the country charts, but crossed over to the pop Top Ten as well.
Anderson remained a regular visitor to the country Top Ten through the late '70s, and reached the Top Five a total of 19 times through 1978. Among the highlights were the number ones "I Get the Fever" (1966), "For Loving You" (a 1967 duet with regular partner Jan Howard), "My Life (Throw It Away if I Want To)" (1969), "World of Make Believe" (1974), and "Sometimes" (1976). By that point, Anderson was working often with a new duet partner, Mary Lou Turner. He had also penned numerous hits for other artists, including Connie Smith, Hank Locklin, Porter Wagoner, Jim Reeves, and Faron Young, among many others. His final Top Ten country hit came with 1978's disco-tinged "I Can't Wait Any Longer," and by 1982, Anderson's inability to score a follow-up hit led him away from both songwriting and recording. Instead, he became a regular presence on television, hosting game shows (ABC's The Better Sex, TNN's Fandango) and spending several years in the cast of the soap opera One Life to Live; he also hosted the TNN talk show Opry Backstage.
When Steve Wariner hit the Top Five in 1992 with his cover of "Tip of My Fingers," Anderson was galvanized into a return to songwriting. He partnered with various Nashville pros and saw his songs new and old recorded by Kenny Chesney, Lorrie Morgan, Collin Raye, John Michael Montgomery, Mark Wills, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, and many others. In 1998, Anderson returned to recording as well, signing with Reprise for one album Fine Wine. In 2001 Anderson moved to the Varese label and released A Lot of Things Different, which featured Anderson's version of the title track (a hit for Kenny Chesney). The Way I Feel followed four years later.

Telling stories is what Robert Munsch does — and loves — best. From the first time he stood in front of a group of children as a student teacher at a nursery school in 1972, his animated presentation grabbed hold of the imaginations of his listeners and he’s been telling stories ever since. In a review of Munsch’s most recent book, Down the Drai!n¸ Quill & Quire dubbed him “Canada’s King of Kidlit." But before he puts a story to paper, Munsch can spend years telling, revising and fine-tuning the tale in front of his rapt audiences. "I figured out once that the stories the kids kept requesting came to two percent of my total output," he says. But once he discovered how to capture the spontaneity of his narratives in written form, he was on his way to being a successful and sought-after author.
All of his characters are believably energetic, stubborn and endearing children, while his story lines tend to challenge conventions and stereotypes. Munsch likes to use children he meets on his storytelling adventures in his books. Ribbon Rescue was inspired by Jillian, a Mohawk girl from the Kahnawake reserve outside of Montreal, who went to hear a storytelling wearing a traditional ribbon dress. Lighthouse was inspired by a picture given to him by a little girl in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Just One Goal! came to him when he was staying with a hockey-loving girl and her family in the Northwest Territories. His three children have also appeared in various stories.
Munsch has published more than 50 books, which are sold around the world in 20 different languages, including French and several different First Nations languages. His first efforts, Mud Puddle and The Dark, were published in 1979, and the runaway bestseller Love You Forever was first published in 1986. Munsch has been publishing two books a year with Scholastic Canada since 1997. His most recent books are Roar! (Fall 2009) and Put Me in A Book! (February 2010).
Munsch describes his stories as "middle of the road taboo." When he uses words like pee and underwear, "the kids go absolutely bananas." As for the parents, "Eighty percent think it's really neat; the other twenty percent ask, 'How could you?'”
Munsch and his wife live in Guelph, Ontario. He spends most of his time writing, and likes to devote his spare time to making school visits and telling stories — often without advance notice — at day care centers, schools, and libraries. IN September, 2009, he was named to Canada’s Walk of Fame. He is also the Honorary Chair of ABC Canada’s Family Literacy Day.

Ray Price is one of American music's truly g
reat stars. He was inducted into Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996, but has long shown his genius in other genres as well. After more than a half-century in the business, Ray can still belt out a song with the best of them, whether it's honky-tonk, country, pop, blues, jazz, or anything in between.
The Los Angeles Times has declared Ray Price to be 'a national treasure.' Another newspaper has compared him to Frank Sinatra. Ask any Ray Price fan, however, if that's true. Most of them will tell you that Ray Price has no equal anywhere when it comes to delivering a song and pleasing an audience.
